1) Moon Moon is gone! And we already have a new hire to replace him! And this poor guy will be watched like a hawk, because I'll be damned if we're going to have another Moon Moon (although I'm not there to help with his training this week). Supervisor Friend wanted to write down what she said to MM during the exit meeting so she wouldn't forget, and I'm eagerly awaiting the goods.

2) Supervisor Friend was not in a good mental space yesterday to go to dinner and tell me all about it, plus we had a large storm cell blow through just as it was time for everyone to be heading out to dinner, so instead we all headed home to hunker down to avoid potential tornadoes and hail. Maybe today? We'll see.

3) Monday I got my teeth cleaned and briefly saw the podiatrist who has requested a blood test before she can prescribe meds for my toes. They look absolutely dreadful. This paragraph is also hilarious, because there used to be a "Teeth and Feet" place up the road from us, but no, I had two separate appointments with the dentist and the podiatrist in two separate locations, lol.

4) Yesterday's adventure turned out 50/50. The purple took like a charm, but the pink didn't properly take, so it's this weird light pink mixed with buttery blonde, and not in a pretty strawberry blonde kind of way. Yellow and pink really don't mix well and keeps looking quite orange to me in under the bathroom light. We think it's because the roots had to be bleached and toned, and so the hair cuticle was just DONE after that and needed more time to settle down before accepting a new color. So, I will be going back Thurs to have the pink redone.

I showed the picture of what I wanted, which was a cotton candy purple and pink, with the pink on top and the purple on bottom. We went with the light pink, but also went with the wild orchid purple, which turned out much darker than expected, although I'm not really complaining. Considering how dark the purple turned out, for the redo of the pink we'll be going with the fuchsia (seen in both of the color images above) instead, and in theory my hair should turn out more like this.

5) Today is a first-time visit to an orthodontist to see if we can sort my bottom teeth. One of my bottom teeth has pushed back and has been causing uncontrollable tongue movements, sucking on the offending tooth, and chewing on the lip in that spot, and all of these uncontrollable movements are killing my tongue, the tongue and neck muscles, and the lip around that area. It's been driving me bonkers since around last Oct or Nov. After that, I have to go do the blood test for the podiatrist. Then I come home and start working on the stack of receipts I need to get sorted and begin finding all the paperwork I need to do my taxes.

6) Tomorrow will be a first-time appointment with a new PCP, since mine retired. I hope I like him. If not, my mom has scheduled with the #2 person on my list of potentials for next week, and I'll find out what she thinks about him.

1) I'm looking forward to Moon Moon being sacked on Monday - HR finally agreed to letting Supervisor fill out termination paperwork

2) I won't be there to see it, because I'll be off next week on my "staycation" (I really hate that term) - I might see if supervisor/friend wants to go to lunch or dinner to celebrate once it's official

3) Tuesday will be my appointment to turn my hair purple and pink as I had originally planned for the holidays and just never got around to doing

4) Other plans for my week off are boring house work, budget and tax catching up, and recording playing card purchases (no really, this is going to be a couple days' worth of work alone)

5) I no longer have any obligations with the oil and gas company contract, but I'm still contracted with them in case they need to call on me for any questions

6) I have officially moved into a nice corner office at the current contract and out of a cubicle that is now occupied by temp-to-hire New Girl that I got all trained up to take over the month-end work I was previously working on - she's awesome and is exactly what we hoped the guy that we're firing on Monday was going to be

7) I have been tasked with writing up all the things I've already helped with on this contract to show my value after ~5-6 months, including the BIG one of discovering a $2mil error on the books that's been building for the past 5 years - I'm pretty proud of that, and there's an Old Guard person still arguing that it "doesn't look right on the financials," because when they've been looking at it incorrectly for many years, seeing it done correctly might feel uncomfortable, especially when it also means having to swallow that gigantic "you've been wrong for a very long time" pill - I'm still a consultant, which everyone on the floor keeps asking me about, especially given my move into an office - I think they are looking to make me a job offer

😎 I still have no idea if I want to work at this place - I don't know if they are considering creating a new job title specific for me without any official subordinates or if I would get the title of the previous occupant of the office I'm in, Sr Director of Accounting and Finance, which would be the equivalent of a Comptroller/Controller for a place like this - if they go with the latter, I would be the supervisor over the Director of Accounting Operations (my current supervisor and friend who would be fine with me as her boss, and I'd rather not have her job directly managing all the grant accountants), the Payroll Manager, the Accounts Payable Manager, and the Accounting Systems Manager (who's department appears to be a weird combination of Treasury, Project/Grant Management, General Ledger Management, and Cash Accounting, which feels like a hotbed of quantum entanglements that shouldn't exist in ANY company) - it's the last person in that list that is already having issues with my suggestion that there are other, more speedy and correct ways to run her department, and she's taking major offense of my suggesting that, but the CFO so far appears to be in agreement with me and wants to hear more, so we'll see how that plays out

Additional Seattle places I visited not listed in previous post (mostly for my own memory):

The Confectionery - I love the name of that place - they make 4-bite individual cheesecakes in so many flavors, and they also offer to cut 4 flavors into quarters so you can purchase a sampler mini cheesecake, which I can attest would probably be worth it, as 4 mini cheesecakes split between 2 people was too much for me and my friend

Tamarind Tree - "Provincial Vietnamese Restaurant" - think Vietnamese fancy fusion - SOOOO yummy

So Much Yarn - guess what I bought there? - I was planning a tapestry crochet dragon piece that I started while on the plane heading home - I'm still working on it in my spare time

Pike Market farmer's stands - I found two stands selling rambutan, which I couldn't find while in Hong Hong Market here in Texas when I went to celebrate Lunar New year - the oranges were ridiculously high priced everywhere I went in Seattle

Molly Moon's Capital Hill - ice cream parlor in the gay district - they are hiring with starting pay at $18/hr, just to give you an idea of the cost of living in Seattle

Premier Meat Pies - was on the docks just by the Argosy Cruise we took for the harbor tour

Dough Zone Dumpling House - Q-BAO, soup dumplings, green onion pancake, sweet and sour cucumber that looks like two tiny dragons curled up on your plate, and some pot stickers - I really wanted to try either the mango pancake or the brown sugar pudding, but I was stuffed

I'm back from my vacation in Seattle. I made sure to eat seafood (mostly salmon) at least once every day. There was a Minecraft exhibit at the Museum of Pop Culture, so I took some videos of that for the nephews. Monday there was a lot of sun, and my friend that I was visiting commented that only I could manage to visit Seattle in the middle of winter and get sunburned. My favorite spots were all in Pike Market: a wine, cheese, chocolate, and cured meat tasting room overlooking the sound (Northwest Tastings), a coffee room with a huge fireplace (Storyville), and Pike Place Chowder, which was so good I ate there twice.

Other places of note I visited:

Derby - I ate a tasty steak salad and drank a Hot Rod Toddy while looking at classic cars

Macrina Bakery and Cafe - their brunch menu is reprinted each weekend, so I'm assuming the menu options also change regularly

Robot vs Sloth - I bought two monsters books there and resisted with all my effort buying all the plushie bats

Beecher's Handmade Cheese - watched from the street corner as they made the cheese - bought some truffle cheese to introduce my friend to truffles for the first time and bought some aged cheddar to bring home - the guy there said if I like truffles....

Truffle Queen - OMG, so much truffle! She was weighing in a fresh batch of truffles when I arrived. I opted for some truffle salt instead of truffle mustard, although I may still order some online for later, since that is my favorite to go with sausage

The Crumpet Shop - I wanted to try about 5 of them

Village Sushi - Joe has been there for decades, makes the best damn sushi, has the largest hamachi kama I have eaten to-date, and has the best stereo setup you will ever find in a sushi place on which he plays a lot of classic rock and jazz

Elliott Bay Book Co. - so totally worth a visit - in the heart of the gay district

The Purple Store - not false advertising

There was a glass-blowers shop in the Occidental Square area of the International District/Chinatown.

We also stopped by The Pinball Museum, but that was actually really disappointing, so I took a couple of pics and didn't bother going in. We have some better arcade bars in Dallas that put this place to shame.

Places I didn't really have time to see: Chihuly Gardens and Glass, Living Computer Museum, Museum of Flight, any art or science museums (although we did visit an open gallery where a friend was displaying along with some others - I actually bought a couple prints from another artist and then promptly left them at the sushi place - they will be mailed to me eventually), Space Needle (I had just as good a view from my friend's 26th story Oracle lunch room, and that was free), Underground Tour (I did that ~15 years ago when I visited previously, so didn't feel the need to do it again), Seattle Aquarium and/or zoo

Despite my friend now living in Seattle for a few years, I was able to introduce her to new things: meat pies, a new dumpling house and Occidental Square in Chinatown, truffles!, Macrina brunch, Storyville coffee, and she'd never been on the harbor tour cruise, so we did that together as well.

Update

I came home Monday from work to arrive at the same time as the roommate. I pulled out my house key to unlock the door, but it wasn't working for some reason. When I realized why it wasn't working, I stopped to look at her a moment and then said, "Well, I guess I gave [2nd job] my house key by accident instead of the building key, since they're shaped the same, and now you can guess why I had to give them back the key."

2nd job stuff )

I other news, I had a Friday birthday (6/29) which involved working both jobs, drinking a fish (not my best moment in life), riding a couple rides at Six Flags, and then helping my overheated roommate get home. The next day (6/30) I spent with a couple friends at an estate sale, a nice lunch, and a parking lot incident in which a person opened their car door into my car with such force and such perfect timing as I was pulling into the parking space that their door wedged itself between the front quarter panel and my door. I actually had to back up an inch or two in order to get it unwedged. Then I couldn't open my door more than a couple inches, so I had to crawl over the center console to get out of my car. The driver/owner of that car refused to exchange insurance information with me, so we had to involve the police, and she still insists her passenger's door was already open when I entered the parking space, and stated so quite argumentatively with my insurance rep, so that's now gone into subrogation. The next day, Sunday 7/1, I spent with another friend going to lunch, an antique mall, and two different ice cream places. Because she drives so much for work and wasn't too embarrassed by it, I still drove us in my new car, despite having to crawl across the center console every single time I needed in or out of the car.

Keep in mind, this was the brand new car that I just bought at the end of May. I'd had it for just over a month. This was about the same amount of time I had with my previous car when the carport fell on it due to the weight of a foot-plus of snow.

Monday 7/2 arrived and I went to 2nd job in the morning, dropped off my car at the collision shop and picked up the rental during my usual lunch drive, and drove to primary job. I had not thought about it being a holiday week (July 4th), and the only rental they had available was a Nissan Armada, which really is like driving around a flotilla - that thing is HUGE. Saturday 7/14 finally arrived and Mom and I went to pick up the rental vehicle we already reserved for the trip, a Dodge Grand Caravan, much smaller and better suited as a 7-passenger vacation-mobile over the Armada. We took back the Armada and had lunch, then I went home to pack for vacation.

Vacation Stuff )

Sunday 7/15 - I think I was starting to get back to normal. Of course, then Monday morning happened, and that takes you back to the beginning of this post. And round, and round we go.

Atlanta

So, Mom and the boys are asking about going somewhere besides San Antonio this year for our annual summer vacation. Since we have Six Flags passes, we're looking at other cities with Six Flags, and the roulette wheel has so far settled on Atlanta, GA.

Now I'm looking at things to do while we're there. Feel free to provide suggestions.

One thing I found just zooming in on Google Maps is The Vortex, but of course it's just a bar with coronary bypass burgers and 21+ age restriction. (At least in San Antonio our hotel is right next door to a Brick House that is kid friendly until 10pm.) I just got a kick out of the facade, and with middle nephew being a huge Rick and Morty fan....well, maybe we could at least do a drive-by for a photo-op.

Mom mentioned the Coca-Cola museum, I found the Center for Puppetry Arts, and bossman recommends Stone Mountain Park, which looks huge, and I know the boys and I all like the high ropes jungle gyms.

Holy crap, I had a vacation finally! )

Now to get some laundry and house/room cleaning done, followed by happy gaming, since it's the Anniversary Event time in The Secret World. Woot!

Trip Time

After a few years working at my place of business, I'm actually planning an honest vacation from there (Jun 29-Jul 3). It's not that I'll have my phone off, but I'll actually be doing things away from home most of the week. We've planned out who will be taking care of my job duties while I'm out. I've trained the staff necessary and am crossing my fingers that all will go well.

Yesterday, Mom and I worked out our plans for a 3-day trip to San Antonio with the two eldest nephews. )

Then, I'll have two days to relax away from the boys and do some needed bedroom and closet organizing and hanging out with a friend or two. That will be followed by probably more skating and July 4th fireworks with the boys, and then a typical lazy Sunday in which I sit on my ass and do as little as possible while playing with some form of string craft.

Oh, and June 29th is my birthday, so this will be a nice birthday present as well.

Now to remember where I've stored my luggage, which I think is in the shed, but I haven't been out there in two years, so this alone will be a minor adventure in and of itself.

I also have no idea when was the last time I used my vacation tag for one of these posts. I'm glad to be using it for its intended purpose.

Getting the hamsters in motion for a passport.

Planning a trip.

Pricing the tickets.

Laying out the schedule.

This has been about 4 years in coming.

This will make [livejournal.com profile] notcharming very happy.

Edit: Hair Color: - this is a trick question, right?
